Anyone who knows me knows that I’m very enthusiastic about new things and tools. At the moment, it’s especially experiments like digital avatars, voice cloning etc. that awaken the play instinct in me. ๐ ๐ฎ
With a rather terrible selfie ๐ธ and a few voice samples of myself, I created a digital twin ๐ฅ. I could have removed a few wrinkles and photoshopped something like a hairstyle, but then it would no longer be authentic – the facial expression is also a bit weird, although the question is whether it’s different in real life ๐
But the best thing is: I speak 4 languages this way! My German is “original”, the rest was created using voice cloning and text-2-speech technology. I would probably still be able to keep up with English, but my avatar certainly speaks Polish and Italian better. ๐
If you want to try it out yourself: I used the tools ElevenLabs for voice cloning, D-ID for the animation and CapCut on my smartphone for the editing – all done in just a few minutes. โฑ๏ธ๐ ๏ธ
But seriously, how fascinating is the whole thing? The fact that these technologies are still in their infancy (at least for consumers) and are developing so rapidly makes me think about a future where languages are no longer a barrier. ๐๐ Will we soon be able to speak to everyone in our native language? Will a “Star Trek”-style universal translator soon be a reality? Sounds like pure science fiction and yet it is getting closer and closer to reality.
